What Is Invisalign?

Curious about Invisalign

If you’ve seen the posters about Invisalign in your dental office, but have been too shy to ask about it, fear not! We’ve got you covered!

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a specific brand of teeth straightening aligners, and Invisalign treatment involves wearing a series of clear plastic aligners that gently shift your teeth. These aligners are designed specifically for your mouth, based on a scan of your teeth and gums.

While the aligners should be worn most of the day, you can take them out to eat, drink, and do your daily brushing and flossing.

Most people finish treatment within 18 months, though you will likely see results sooner.

Is Invisalign for everyone?

Not necessarily.

If you have crowns, veneers, or bridgework on several teeth, Invisalign might not be possible.

Your doctor will be able to direct you towards the best course of treatment for your specific needs.

What’s the cost?

The average cost of Invisalign is between $3,000 and $8,000, roughly the same as metal braces.

Your specific cost of treatment will depend on your needs. After your Invisalign consultation, you’ll be able to discern the cost and a potential payment plan.

Your dental team will be able to help you with your specific case.

No metal wires or brackets, but are there any caveats?

Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners are removable. That means you have to be disciplined about wearing your aligners if you want them to work.

You also may have a tiny lisp when you talk, which most people don’t notice.

And lastly, you’ll need to keep a toothbrush, toothpaste, and pack of floss handy at most times, as it’s important to clean your teeth after eating or drinking before re-inserting your aligners. But that just means you’ll get a gold star at your next dental cleaning!
